Tytuł: Quick Reference Cheatsheet Preview
Wiadomość wysłana przez: jakhajay w 18 Lutego 2016, 07:07:25
Hey there folks,
Been working on a quick reference cheatsheet, with the most important things beginner players need to know. Please take a look, tell me what you think, if I've got anything wrong, something needs to be fixed/adjusted etc.

Once we have it all nice looking and finished, I'll do a Polish language version also :)

Changes needed:
Lighter picture for the background (This was the only photo of a train station from my visit to Poland)

EDIT: Removed preview images since it's finalised now :)

Two signals about pantgraph when we have to go down it and when we can go up it back must be added.
And W27 too - new max route speed.

The sign W16 should be like this:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/W_16_Wska%C5%BAnik_przystanku_osobowego.svg/200px-W_16_Wska%C5%BAnik_przystanku_osobowego.svg.png

The version we've got now, have colors in wrong order (the black stripes should be changed with the white ones).

I hope you understand :D

Updated :)

I know we don't have weighbridges.... yet. I just needed to fill the gap and we'll probably do them eventually anyway

Wow, I guess the guy whose English language site I've been using needs to update his page.: http://jareks.zonk.pl/signal/signs.htm
Anyway, updated :)

I thinkt it might be useful to add W15, W24 and Z1 signal.

I think that you should change "this"  <-> "next"  in mechanical signals. And add D1 sign.

OK, I can make those changes, but what is Z1? I can find the others, but my reference guides don't seem to have that one

Z1-track closed indicator:

Oh that one! Lol, the other pages I looked at didn't label it! Great thanks for that link, I'll add them shortly :)

Z1 means "track closed" and looks like a very old signal, that outlasted on some devices like derailers, buffer stops, turntables and water cranes.

Nice catch Superbarman. Added the extra signs and fixed the mistake :)

You can add:
- Subsidiary signal (Sz) next to Stop
- W28 in Other signs
- W31 in Other signs
- We4a in Catenary signs; it means: entering the electric stock prohibited
- We1e in Catenary signs; it means prepare for lowering the pantographs and speed limit 60 km/h
- W8 in Speed limit signs; it's blank and means speed limit 20km/h
What is more, it's better to change W15 for the other one (second version) becuase it's much more popular. I hope you know what I mean...

The mechanical signal (Next 40) have swapped green and orange light.

And Sz is valid with any other lights, not only red.

It's true, however In TD you can set Sz with red light only.

I meant picturing Sz with red light gives wrong impression that one is necessary, while is not. On the sheet I would write "other lights don't matter" aside the example semaphore.

Two nice examples:

Superbarman: I've only got space for one more sign in Other Signs. I had a chat with Marcin, and he reckoned that the W28 isn't really necessary for beginning players (It's not in the editor, and would be purely decoration only, since we don't have radio channels).

Ra: I have limited space on the sheet. I chose to display only the single red light for Stop because it makes it immediately obvious what it is. As Mikson said we can currently only set Stop to the one red light only. We can add a note in the written guide if we implement other signals like the two you showed us, but for the cheat sheet it's probably unnecessary. On the other hand, I will make a note that as long as the red light is displayed, none of the other lights matter.

As a note to everyone following this thread, the cheat sheet is supposed to be a quick reference to only the most important signs and signals new players will encounter. Its not meant to have everything because that's what the written guide on the main website is for. I will be expanding that guide to include light signals and any missed signs over the coming weeks. That said, I want to thank you all for your help, and your continued help, as we make the cheat sheet look really nice :)

Stop is with single red, while the "Sz" (substitute signal — blinking white) is valid also with any combination of lights, not only with red. So perhaps — due to limited space — just blinkig white should be enough.

Ok Ra, I might need a little more information about Sz.

Most importantly: What does the substituting signal Sz actually mean? (In 3-5 words) What should the driver do? Why should it be grouped with Stop?

The English language reference site (linked earlier) I've been using has a long description about when and where it's used, and I have no idea how to condense it down to 3-5 words. Maybe "Max: 40km/h, Prepare to stop"?

I've also added a note at the bottom of the cheat sheet directing people to the guide on the main website (in English) if they need more information or see additional signs not shown on the sheet

The "Sz" means "you can go, but full safety is not guaranteed by hardware", speed limit is 40km/h and 20km/h for SBL (~automatic section locks). Sz can be shown in case of some minor hardware problems or when the semaphore doesn't show a sensible message (wrong/undefined signal means Stop anyway). Also Sz can cause a train crash, as it was 4 years ago (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Szczekociny_rail_crash). Perhaps "extraordinary go with care" would be fine.

Great thanks! I have a clearer understanding of what the signal means now :)
Updated with some of the suggested changes. Opted not to add the additional catenary signs, as that segment will become too cluttered. They will have a proper diagram and write up when I update the guide on the main page

The sign "Invalid Signal" should have a bit wider border.

What sounds better in that case: "invalid signal" or "void signal"?

Hmm, void does sound stronger, and also gets the message across. I'll change it, but won't post a new version yet
